About Kingsthorpe Bowling Club

Kingsthorpe Bowling Club (KBC) was founded in 1896, originally on land now occupied by the Kingsthorpe shopping centre. It moved to its present site in the 1970s and the indoor bowling facility and a new clubhouse, built with the assistance of club members, were opened in 1990. Details of our history have been chronicled by previous officials and can be found on our Club History page.

Kingsthorpe BC is a premier bowling club and the only one in Northampton to have indoor and outdoor bowling facilities. Our 6 rink outdoor green is ‘A’ graded and our 6 rinks indoor carpet, are both maintained to a high standard.

KBC has a proud history of success, both past and present, at International, County and Club levels. As a very successful and competitive club, we have provided players to the outdoor county Middleton Cup/Johns Trophy teams, indoor county Liberty Cup/Atherley teams and have current indoor England Internationals. The club has also been honoured with several members taking office as County Presidents.

We have a varied choice of social bowling for players of all abilities from casual play to club games, day and evening leagues, bowls drives and competitions. There are no barriers to playing bowls for those with a disability so please come and see our facilities. We also have a special wheelchair for use on the indoor green.

Kingsthorpe BC offers a warm welcome to new members, experienced bowlers or someone looking to try the game for the first time. Our enthusiastic official coaching team provide 4-week sessions for our new bowlers and also taster sessions for those who want to see what the game of bowls is all about. Equipment is provided at these sessions.

Annual membership is available for Indoor bowling, Outdoor bowling or Social, giving you use of the bowling greens depending on the membership you choose, use of the club and its facilities and a comfortable lounge for socialising. Our well-stocked bar offers a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks and snacks. In the mornings our caterer provides teas/coffees and bacon rolls.

All officers, committees and volunteers work to keep our club facilities, first class, for the benefit of members.

Please come and visit us to have a look around and we hope to see you soon.
